Oxalis Games has raised $2 million in a new funding round to further the development of its debut title, Moonfrost. The round was co-led by L1D and Arete Capital, with participation from Merit Circle, Selini Capital, EthLizards, and W3GG DAO.
The recent investment follows the successful release of Moonfrost’s third closed alpha release in July on the Epic Games Store, where it has quickly climbed the ranks of the ‘Top Wishlisted’ games. Additionally, the game’s official soundtrack, composed by Shudan, has launched on major music streaming platforms, providing fans a taste of Moonfrost’s enchanting world as they await the full release.
Moonfrost is a free-to-play, life-sim, farming RPG which is currently in development by Oxalis Games. Inspired by the likes of: Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, Rune Factory and Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
The game will allow players to customize their farm and build their dream home, get to know a diverse cast of characters, compete against other players in fun contests and unique multiplayer features, and uncover the secrets of a mysterious substance known as Frost.
Oxalis Games ethos of building alongside its community allows them to release and iterate regularly throughout development. The studio is currently gearing up for the next alpha release in mid October where they’ll be inviting a limited group of 11,000 players to participate. It will introduce the highly anticipated “Farm Royale” — an innovative player-versus-player game mode that allows players to farm competitively against each other as part of Moonfrost's long-term live ops strategy.
The studio will also be showcasing Moonfrost at MCM Comic Con in London’s ExCel which is being held in conjunction with EGX this year. The game will be a part of the event organisers showcase for up and coming games, sharing a booth with Farming Simulator. Visitors will have the opportunity to try the game, meet the developers, and even grab one of a limited number of Epic Games redeem codes for early access.
Founded in 2020 by industry veterans Gina Nelson (formerly Mediatonic) and Ric Moore (BAFTA winner and creator of Stardew Valley Mobile), Oxalis Games initially raised $4 million in 2021 to kickstart Moonfrost, a next-gen pixel art life-simulation farming RPG. The studio has garnered additional backing from prominent investors, including Supercell, Animoca Brands, Blocore, Griffin Gaming Partners, and Pantera, as well as notable angel investors such as Jagex CEO Phil Mansell, Famicom CEO Daniel Engelhardt, Soba CEO Juha Paananen, and Aggero CEO Cristian Manea.
With a dedicated community of around 150,000 players eagerly awaiting its launch, Moonfrost is shaping up to be a standout title from this ambitious indie studio.
